Matt Crumpler
About Matt: Matt grew up right here in Greenville. He attended Clemson University, followed by the Medical University of South Carolina. Matt and his wife, Allyn, moved back to Greenville in the summer of 2013, and settled into their home in Alta Vista. They have two children, Ben and Ellison. Matt is an anesthesiologist with Palmetto Anesthesia Associates. He enjoys being outside on trails – whether on bike or on foot. In 2002 Matt became an Appalachian Trail thru hiker. He also enjoys kite and wake surfing, kayaking, and playing the electric guitar. Matt plays with Grace Church and is also in a local band, RadDad, which he often describes as a “well organized midlife crisis.”
Favorite Trail or Greenway: I love the Kanuga trail in Paris Mountain State Park. This trail tucks around the backside of the mountain allowing it to have an expansive view of northern Greenville. It also has the perfect amount of gradient for a smooth, fast, and flowy descent. Even though PMSP is only a few minutes from my house, it always makes me feel like I’m deep into the mountains when truly I’m just a few minutes down the trail. It is a great example of how a well organized trail system placed within a few miles a major city center can get a tremendous amount of use and be a true asset to the residents.
Why I Support UGATA: I was born and raised in Greenville and could not be more proud to live in the upstate. I love UGATA’s vision for upstate South Carolina to have the most expansive network of multi-use trails and greenways in the United States. Many of my favorite memories are of time spent outdoors on trails and greenways. I look forward to working with local government and community officials to accelerate the implementation of this vision across the upstate.
