In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many trails in the beloved Mountain Bridge Wilderness area (Caesars Head and Jones Gap State Parks) were severely damaged and closed to the public. With limited in-house capacity and resources, the South Carolina State Parks turned to UGATA for help. UGATA’s Upstate Trail Corps worked hand in hand with State Park staff to re-open miles of trails in these parks, including the Naturaland Trust Trail, the Jones Gap Trail and the Rim of the Gap Trail. The work involved clearing thousands of downed trees off of trails and repairing badly eroded areas. All trails in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness area are now re-opened for the public to enjoy!
