NOTE: The full FAB 150 is not yet open due to continued Hurricane Helene-related closures on the Foothills Trail from Sassafras Mountain to Bad Creek Access. Projected opening date for the full trail is April 2025.
Take an epic journey from the Foothills to the Appalachian Trail on the FAB 150! This trail works well in either direction, but if hiking from east to west the adventure begins on the Foothills Trail at the summit of Sassafras Mountain (highest point in South Carolina). Hike 55 miles on the Foothills trail, passing through the temperate rainforests of the Jocassee Gorges, Whitewater Falls (highest falls east of the Mississippi) and the wild and scenic Chattooga River along the way. A 4.5-mile hike along the Chattooga River Trail will take you to the great state of Georgia, where you’ll hike the entire 35-mile Georgia section of the Bartram Trail, culminating with 360 degree views from the summit of Rabun Bald. From the GA/NC state line, you’ll hike about 39 more miles on the Bartram Trail, passing through Franklin, NC on your way to the Appalachian Trail at the stunning Wayah Bald. Finally, head north on the Appalachian Trail where a 17 mile hike will take you to the iconic Nantahala Outdoor Center. Conclude your hike here, or just continue all the way to Maine for a FAB 2200! If you hike the FAB 150, please send any links to trail journals, YouTube videos, etc. to mflege@ugata.org so we can share them on this page!
