Matthew Hudson-Flege
About Matt: Matthew Hudson-Flege is the Executive Director of Upstate Greenways & Trails Alliance. He has extensive experience working in the nonprofit sector, and holds a PhD in International Family and Community Studies from Clemson University. Matt is the author of three books, including “Kid-Friendly Hikes of Upstate South Carolina.” He lives in Greer with his wife Heidi and son David.
Favorite Trail or Greenway: It’s really hard to narrow it down, but I would have to say the Foothills Trail. My wife and I thru-hiked the trail together in 2013, and I later ran the entire trail as an “ultramarathon” in 2016. I look forward to continuing to build new memories along this trail with my son!
Why I Support UGATA: Coming from a background in family and community studies, it’s hard for me to pick just one issue I’m passionate about… physical & mental health, thriving communities, and equitable opportunities to learn, work and play are all things I care about. Building trails and greenways is one of the few ways to create positive change across all of these areas, so I am thrilled to be a part of the movement.
